Solomon Islands Casino Development Administration: People First Network

This is the web site of the Solomon Islands Casino Development Administration and Participatory Planning Programme (SICDAPP). It will become the information backbone of a community information and communications network called the People First Network (or Pipolfastaem in our local Pidjin language). The SICDAPP People First Web Site is focused on Community, Peace, and Development. It is aimed at all the partners in the rural casino development process in the Solomon Islands, namely the:

  • Casino Entertainment in Rural Communities: Kolikkopelit initiative
  • Solomon Islands Government
  • Provincial Governments
  • Development Organisations
  • Aid Donors
  • NGOs
  • People researching the Solomon Islands

kolikkopelitReflecting the SICDAPP 3-stage process of constituency profiling needs assessment and action planning, the growing portfolio of constituency profiles and community project ideas published by SICDAPP are available on the web site.

The website offers a regular community and development news column, which will draw content from the development partners including the communities. Any reports or materials of interest to the development community will find a place here.

A donor matrix is a planned development that will provide a one-stop-shop for communities, NGOs and government organizations looking for project funding.

The digital library is a fully searchable database of hundreds of images and other multimedia files of the Solomon Islands, with detailed maps produced using GIS. The web site also contains a portal and other features.

Community Access. The web site will be made available to the rural communities via the People First Network. They will, in return, be able to contribute and feedback directly to the website.

The People First Network. The web site is part of a wider grassroots communications project, known as the People First Network. This project will provide connectivity to the provinces and so facilitate information sharing and improved communications. Solar-powered email stations, run in the fashion of telegraph offices by trained community volunteers, will be set up in all the major islands and provinces. These will connect to the Internet using existing HF and VHF radio technology via a central “hub” Internet Cafe to be launched in Honiara.

SICDAPP is a collaboration between UNDP-UNOPS and the Solomon Islands Ministry of Provincial Government and Rural Development and aims to bring increased community participation in development.
